What about Pup

What about Pup?

Every holiday season, the question is: What about Pup?

Last year, we went crazy and decided he’d come along. Navigating airfreight and animal security was complicated, but our dog made it to Baltimore in one piece.

The problem was the return. Pup was flying on a different airline, departing two hours before us. After a long check-in wait, the airline rep curtly told us Pup’s flight was cancelled, with no other doggie flights that day. What?! We dialed freights on our cell phones in vain while queuing up at each airline counter. Finally, one airline had room.

But there was a catch. Pup needed to fly cargo, and our flight was leaving in 45 minutes! Waving $20 bills in a Cabbie’s face as we shoved Pup’s crate in his van, I panted, "Cargo area… Delta… Now." He floored it. I blindly signed the shipping papers and kissed Pup good-bye. We made our flight just before the doors closed. Uncrating Pup in Austin, he jumped into my arms whined as if to say, "Don’t you EVER do that to me AGAIN!"

This year we hired a sitter. Pup stays home. He’ll thank us for it.
